JSW Energy Limited, through its step-down subsidiary JSW Renew Energy Thirty Seven Limited, has signed a significant Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) for a 250 MW / 500 MWh Standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

The energy storage project, to be developed in Rajasthan, will operate under a Build, Own and Operate (BOO) model for a period of 12 years. Under the terms of the agreement, JSW Energy will supply energy storage at a tariff of ₹2,24,000 per MW per month, with the project benefitting from viability gap funding to support cost-effectiveness and deployment scale.

This strategic project strengthens JSW Energy’s position in the energy storage domain, taking its total locked-in energy storage portfolio to 29.3 GWh, which includes 2.9 GWh of BESS and 26.4 GWh of Pumped Hydro Storage. The company is steadily progressing towards its ambitious target of 40 GWh energy storage capacity by 2030.

Commenting on the development, a company spokesperson said, “This agreement with RVUNL marks another crucial step in our commitment to drive the clean energy transition. With large-scale energy storage forming the backbone of future-ready grids, our growing portfolio places us at the forefront of India’s renewable energy evolution.”

Battery Energy Storage Systems are vital for integrating renewable energy into the grid, ensuring round-the-clock availability, and managing peak demand and frequency regulation. The Rajasthan BESS project is expected to play a key role in enhancing grid stability and reliability while accelerating the shift to sustainable energy sources.

This announcement follows a series of clean energy initiatives by JSW Energy, reaffirming its focus on green power, innovation, and long-term sustainability.
