Oil India Limited (OIL) and GAIL (India) Limited, both prestigious Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) operating under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, have signed a significant 15-year Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) for the supply of up to 900,000 Standard Cubic Meters per Day (SCMD) of natural gas. The gas will be sourced from OIL’s producing gas fields in Rajasthan.

The renewed agreement, effective from 1st July 2025, is a continuation of their existing partnership, underscoring the long-standing collaboration between the two energy giants. The formal agreement was executed by Shri Ranjan Goswami, Executive Director (Business Development), OIL and Shri Sumit Kishore, Executive Director (Gas Marketing), GAIL, at GAIL’s Corporate Office in New Delhi.

This 15-year extension reaffirms the joint commitment of OIL and GAIL toward enhancing India’s domestic gas ecosystem. It also demonstrates the mutual resolve to ensure energy security and access through consistent production, efficient transportation, and nationwide distribution of natural gas.

The natural gas supplied under this agreement will be delivered to Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL), a state-run power utility, where it will be utilized for electricity generation. This aligns with India’s broader energy transition strategy to adopt cleaner fuels in the power sector while reducing dependence on imported energy sources.

OIL continues to bolster its upstream capabilities through aggressive exploration and development across India, playing a vital role in the country’s energy independence mission. Meanwhile, GAIL remains a critical player in the midstream and downstream value chain, especially in the monetization and marketing of domestic natural gas.

This long-term agreement not only reflects the strategic alignment of two leading CPSEs but also reinforces their role in driving sustainable and secure energy supply for the country.
