ICICI Prudential Asset Management Q2 FY27 Concall
ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company reported higher revenue and profit for Q2 FY27, supported by growth in assets under management and its mutual fund business. The quarter also highlighted the importance of product mix, investor flows, market conditions and distribution strength in determining the financial performance of an asset management company.
Revenue from operations increased 16.3% year on year to ₹1,674 crore, compared with ₹1,439 crore in Q2 FY26. Profit after tax rose 6.1% to ₹889 crore from ₹838 crore. Revenue growth was stronger than profit growth, indicating that expenses and other income movements also influenced the final earnings outcome.
Compared with Q1 FY27, revenue from operations grew 7% to ₹1,674 crore. However, profit after tax declined from approximately ₹964.6 crore to ₹889 crore. This difference highlights why investors should assess sequential earnings alongside year on year growth rather than relying on a single headline figure.
For the first half of FY27, revenue from operations rose approximately 16.9% to ₹3,238 crore. Profit after tax increased 14.3% to ₹1,854 crore from ₹1,622 crore in the corresponding period last year. The half year figures indicate sustained growth in the company’s core business and earnings base.
Total mutual fund quarterly average assets under management reached ₹11.61 lakh crore, up 14.4% year on year. The company maintained its position as India’s second largest mutual fund asset manager, with a market share of approximately 13.3%. AUM growth is an important driver of revenue because management fees are linked to the assets handled by the company.
Active mutual fund assets under management stood at ₹9.59 lakh crore, increasing 11.1% year on year. The company continued to benefit from its established presence across equity, debt, hybrid and passive investment products. The balance between these categories matters because each product type has different fee structures, investor behaviour and sensitivity to market conditions.
Equity and equity oriented schemes remained a major growth driver. Quarterly average AUM in these schemes reached ₹6.59 lakh crore, up 16.3% year on year. The company reported a 13.7% market share in this category, maintaining its leading position in equity mutual funds. Market performance and fresh investor contributions will remain important influences on future growth.
Hybrid equity schemes also expanded. Their quarterly average AUM increased 19.7% year on year to approximately ₹2.29 lakh crore, giving the company a 26.4% market share. Hybrid products combine different asset classes and can appeal to investors seeking diversification within a single investment product.
Passive funds continued to gain importance. Industry demand for index funds and exchange traded funds has expanded as investors look for products that track market indices or specific asset classes. For ICICI Prudential AMC, passive fund AUM growth can broaden its product reach, although fee yields in these products are generally lower than in actively managed equity schemes.
The broader mutual fund industry remained resilient despite volatile financial markets. Industry quarterly average AUM reached ₹87.49 lakh crore in Q2 FY27, up 13.4% year on year. Monthly SIP contributions reached ₹32,490 crore in September 2026, demonstrating continued participation by investors using systematic investment methods.
The company’s unique customer base reached approximately 1.78 crore by September 30, 2026, an increase of 14.4% year on year. A growing customer base creates opportunities to expand assets through additional investments, new product adoption and long term investor relationships. However, customer growth must translate into sustained investments to support recurring fee income.
Systematic transactions, including systematic investment plans and systematic transfer plans across mutual fund and portfolio management businesses, amounted to approximately ₹4,672 crore in September. This was lower than the ₹4,872 crore recorded in June. Investors should monitor whether systematic contributions recover, as regular investments can provide a more consistent source of inflows than one time transactions.
Distribution remains a major competitive advantage for the company. Its equity mutual fund assets are sourced through mutual fund distributors, national distributors, bank channels and direct investors. Direct investments represented approximately 29.9% of equity quarterly average AUM, while mutual fund distributors contributed 36.1%. Maintaining strong relationships across these channels is important for reaching investors and supporting product growth.
The company also reported strong progress in its Specialised Investment Fund business. Quarterly average AUM in this category increased to approximately ₹4,948 crore from ₹2,678 crore in Q1 FY27. These products provide more specialised investment strategies for eligible investors and represent an additional area of business development.
During the quarter, the company expanded its product range with launches that included a balanced hybrid fund, a multi asset active fund of funds, a dynamic asset allocation passive fund of funds, an insurance exchange traded fund and three life cycle funds with different maturity periods. New products can expand customer choice, although their long term contribution will depend on investor demand and the ability to build sustainable assets.
Revenue yield is a key factor in determining profitability. For H1 FY27, the company reported annualised margins of approximately 67 basis points for equity, 32 basis points for debt, 12 basis points for liquid and passive products, and 29 basis points for arbitrage products. The overall product mix can therefore affect revenue growth even if total AUM rises at a steady rate.
Operating expenses also require attention. Total expenses increased 17.9% year on year to approximately ₹493 crore in Q2 FY27. This was slightly faster than the 16.3% growth in revenue from operations. If this pattern continues, expense control and operating productivity will become increasingly important to maintaining profit growth.
The company declared an interim dividend of ₹30 per equity share. The board fixed October 21, 2026, as the record date for determining eligible shareholders. Dividend payments are one component of shareholder returns, but the sustainability of future distributions depends on earnings, cash generation and the company’s capital requirements.
Another development was the proposed acquisition of the portfolio management services business of ICICI Securities. The transaction is subject to the necessary regulatory approvals and completion of applicable formalities. If completed, it could strengthen the company’s presence in portfolio management and expand its range of investment services beyond mutual funds.
Overall, Q2 FY27 reflected healthy growth in revenue, expanding mutual fund assets and a larger customer base. However, the decline in sequential profit and the rise in expenses show why investors should look beyond headline AUM growth. Future performance will depend on sustained investor inflows, product mix, fee yields, expense management and the company’s ability to expand specialised and alternative investment offerings.
