Anand Rathi Share & Stock Brokers Ltd Q2 FY27 Concall
Anand Rathi Share & Stock Brokers Limited reported strong year-on-year growth in revenue and net profit for the second quarter of FY2026–27. The company benefited from higher broking income, expansion in its Margin Trading Facility business and growth in distribution assets under management. However, operating profitability grew more slowly than revenue, and the decline in EBITDA margin highlights the importance of cost control and the quality of earnings.
Consolidated revenue from operations increased approximately 20% year on year to ₹273.2 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with around ₹227.0 crore in Q2 FY26. The performance reflects contributions from both broking and non-broking businesses. Revenue also increased sequentially from the ₹246.6 crore reported in Q1 FY27.
Net profit rose to ₹41.94 crore, compared with ₹27.90 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. This represented year-on-year growth of approximately 50.3%. The stronger bottom-line performance is an encouraging headline, although investors should distinguish the growth in net profit from the more moderate improvement in operating profit.
Operating profit reached approximately ₹99.86 crore, compared with ₹92.65 crore a year earlier. This represented growth of about 7.8%. Operating profit increased more slowly than revenue, suggesting that operating costs and changes in business mix affected the conversion of higher revenue into operating earnings.
EBITDA was reported at approximately ₹99.9 crore, compared with ₹92.6 crore in Q2 FY26, representing growth of around 7.9%. The EBITDA margin declined to approximately 36.55%, from 40.76% a year earlier, a contraction of roughly 421 basis points. This margin pressure is an important issue to monitor as the company continues to expand its financing and distribution activities.
Broking and related services remained a major contributor to the business. Revenue from this segment increased 34% year on year to approximately ₹155.1 crore, compared with ₹115.8 crore in Q2 FY26. For the first half of FY27, broking and related services revenue grew 25% to approximately ₹283.1 crore.
Equity cash trading accounted for approximately 52% of broking revenue during the quarter and first half. This reflects the importance of delivery-based trading and client participation in the company’s business model. Trading volumes, active client numbers, market sentiment and brokerage pricing will continue to influence the performance of this segment.
Margin Trading Facility, or MTF, was another important growth driver. MTF interest income increased 36% year on year to approximately ₹49.6 crore in Q2 FY27. For H1 FY27, MTF interest income grew 43% to approximately ₹92.4 crore, indicating that financing-related income is becoming increasingly significant within the company’s overall revenue mix.
The MTF book reached approximately ₹1,499 crore at September 30, 2026, representing growth of about 38% year on year. Management set a target of approximately ₹1,750–1,800 crore for the end of FY27. The company had achieved a little over four-fifths of the lower end of that target by the end of the second quarter, putting the stated year-end objective within reach if growth continues.
MTF can generate recurring interest income and deepen customer relationships, but it also introduces credit, collateral and funding risks. Market declines can reduce the value of pledged securities, while higher borrowing costs can compress the spread between interest income and funding expenses. Investors should therefore assess the quality of the MTF book alongside its growth rate.
The distribution business also continued to expand. Assets under management increased approximately 29% year on year to ₹9,999 crore. Distribution income stood at around ₹32.7 crore during Q2 FY27 and approximately ₹60.3 crore for the first half of the financial year. Growth in assets and distribution income can provide a broader revenue base beyond transaction-linked brokerage.
Assets under custody increased approximately 13% year on year to around ₹1.15 lakh crore. This measure reflects the scale of client assets held or serviced through the platform. It can indicate deeper client engagement, although assets under custody and assets under management represent different activities and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Digital capabilities are another part of the company’s operating strategy. Management reported that digital platforms contributed approximately 36% of brokerage income in H1 FY27. Greater digital adoption can improve client access and support scalable service delivery, but the company must continue investing in technology, cybersecurity, platform reliability and customer support.
The wider Indian capital market environment provided a supportive backdrop during the quarter. Management highlighted strong IPO activity, continued retail participation, growth in mutual fund assets and sustained systematic investment plan inflows. These trends can support brokerage, distribution and financing businesses, although market activity and investor sentiment can change quickly.
For the first half of FY27, revenue from operations increased approximately 21% year on year to ₹519.3 crore. Profit after tax before exceptional items reached approximately ₹81 crore, up around 60% year on year. Reported profit after tax after exceptional items was approximately ₹65.3 crore, representing growth of around 29%. This distinction is important because exceptional items can materially affect the comparison between underlying earnings and reported net profit.
The company has also disclosed an investigation involving fraudulent transactions and has recognised an exceptional expense in connection with the matter. The reported disclosures indicate that the company has approached the relevant authorities, that certain beneficiary assets and bank accounts have been attached, and that insurance claims have been filed for eligible losses. The amount ultimately recovered, if any, will depend on the investigation, legal proceedings and insurance outcomes. Investors should monitor subsequent disclosures for updates on the matter.
Management’s stated priorities include expanding the MTF book, increasing distribution assets and strengthening recurring revenue streams. The target of ₹1,750–1,800 crore for the MTF book and an ambition to grow distribution AUM by approximately 40% by the end of FY27 provide measurable indicators for evaluating progress. These are management objectives, not guaranteed outcomes.
Despite the strong headline profit growth, several risks remain. A decline in market turnover could affect brokerage income, while lower investor risk appetite could slow new account activity and distribution inflows. Higher borrowing costs may affect MTF profitability, and margin pressure may persist if operating expenses rise faster than revenue. The outcome of the exceptional transaction-related matter also remains an important uncertainty.
For investors following the business, the next quarterly results should be assessed across several dimensions: broking revenue growth, MTF book expansion, distribution AUM, operating margins, credit quality and exceptional-item developments. Revenue growth alone is not sufficient to assess the quality of performance if margins continue to contract or financing risks increase.
Overall, Anand Rathi Share & Stock Brokers delivered a strong Q2 FY27 increase in consolidated revenue to approximately ₹273.2 crore and net profit to ₹41.94 crore. Growth in broking, MTF interest income and distribution assets supported the performance. However, slower operating-profit growth, a lower EBITDA margin and the outstanding exceptional-item matter warrant continued attention. The sustainability of earnings growth will depend on disciplined expansion, funding-cost management and improved operating leverage in subsequent quarters.
