Onward Technologies Q2 FY27 Results: Profit Jumps 41%, Management Raises Guidance

Onward Technologies has delivered its strongest quarterly performance in Q2 FY27, reporting record revenue, higher profitability and an upgraded full-year outlook.

The engineering research and development services company reported consolidated total revenue of ₹171.2 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, compared with ₹140.1 crore a year earlier.

This represents year-on-year growth of 22.2%, supported by deeper customer relationships, higher project execution and stronger demand for digital engineering services.

Revenue from operations reached ₹170.2 crore, compared with ₹139 crore in Q2 FY26, reflecting growth of 22.4%.

The more significant development was the improvement in operating profitability, which outpaced revenue growth during the quarter.

EBITDA increased 33.7% year-on-year to ₹26.6 crore from ₹19.9 crore, demonstrating the benefits of higher utilisation and operating leverage.

The EBITDA margin expanded to 15.6% from 14.3% in the corresponding quarter last year, an improvement of 130 basis points.

Consolidated profit after tax increased 41.2% to ₹16.8 crore, compared with ₹11.9 crore in Q2 FY26.

The company’s PAT margin also improved to 9.9% from 8.6%, indicating that stronger operating performance translated into higher bottom-line profitability.

For investors, the most encouraging aspect is that profit growth substantially exceeded revenue growth, suggesting improving efficiency as the business expands.

However, reliable publicly available consensus estimates were not established, so the quarter cannot confidently be classified as an earnings beat against analyst expectations.

Sequential comparisons reveal an even stronger improvement in the company’s financial performance. Total revenue increased from ₹151.2 crore in Q1 FY27 to ₹171.2 crore in Q2 FY27, representing growth of 13.2%.

EBITDA increased from ₹18.4 crore to ₹26.6 crore, reflecting sequential growth of approximately 44.6%. The EBITDA margin expanded sharply from 12.3% to 15.6%, an improvement of 330 basis points in just one quarter.

Profit after tax increased from ₹11.2 crore to ₹16.8 crore, representing approximately 50% sequential growth.

These numbers suggest that the company benefited not only from stronger demand but also from improved revenue productivity and cost efficiency.

Management attributed the improvement to higher employee utilisation, better offshore delivery, productivity gains and deeper engagement with strategic customers.

Managing Director Jigar Mehta highlighted that the company’s growth strategy is increasingly translating into improved operating performance.

One of the biggest developments was the company’s decision to upgrade its FY27 financial guidance following the strong first-half performance.

Onward Technologies now expects full-year revenue growth of 15% to 18%, reflecting greater confidence in its business pipeline.

Management also guided for an FY27 EBITDA margin of 13.8% to 14.3%, supported by continued operational improvements.

The revised outlook is particularly important because management guidance provides investors with a clearer benchmark for evaluating future quarterly performance.

Another significant development was the renewal of a ₹44.5 crore managed digital services contract with a global construction and mining equipment customer.

The three-year agreement runs from August 2026 to August 2029 and represents a 72% increase in contract value compared with the previous arrangement.

This contract renewal demonstrates the company’s ability to expand business relationships with existing global customers.

Onward Technologies also increased its number of customers generating at least $1 million in annual revenue from 16 to 18.

The increase indicates that larger customer relationships are becoming an increasingly important contributor to the company’s growth.

Management highlighted encouraging opportunities in digital engineering, artificial intelligence, industrial automation and data-centre infrastructure.

The company is also participating in opportunities involving power management, cooling systems and intelligent industrial platforms.

These areas are relevant because global investments in AI infrastructure are creating demand for specialised engineering services beyond traditional software development.

The company added 432 net employees during H1 FY27, taking its global workforce to 2,917 professionals.

This expansion reflects management’s intention to strengthen delivery capacity for larger customer engagements in the United States and Europe.

However, rapid hiring also creates execution risks if project ramp-ups are delayed or employee utilisation weakens.

Another important financial indicator is the company’s net cash position, which stood at approximately ₹97.1 crore.

A relatively strong balance sheet provides flexibility for recruitment, infrastructure investment and expansion without excessive dependence on borrowing.

Nevertheless, days sales outstanding increased to 80 days from 75 days in the previous quarter, making receivables and cash conversion important indicators to monitor.

Management expects collection cycles to normalise as recently expanded customer engagements move through their billing processes.

For comparison, listed engineering services companies such as Tata Elxsi, KPIT Technologies and L&T Technology Services operate in related markets, although their customer mixes, business scales and valuation profiles differ.

Investors should compare revenue growth, operating margins, client concentration, employee productivity and valuation multiples before drawing conclusions about relative attractiveness.

Onward Technologies has delivered an impressive Q2 FY27 performance, but sustaining the momentum will depend on converting its expanding business pipeline into consistent revenue, protecting margins and maintaining healthy cash generation.
