Nippon India AMC Q2 FY27 Concall: Revenue Up 21%, Profit Falls 6%

Nippon Life India Asset Management Limited delivered strong underlying business growth in the second quarter of FY27, supported by higher assets under management, market-share gains and record operating profit. However, reported net profit declined because the company recognised a one-time charge relating to a SEBI settlement.

The company, which manages Nippon India Mutual Fund, reported revenue from operations of ₹795.75 crore in Q2 FY27, an increase of 20.9% year-on-year from ₹658.12 crore in Q2 FY26. This growth reflects the expansion of its mutual fund business and other asset-management activities.

Total income increased approximately 17.9% year-on-year to ₹818.89 crore, compared with ₹694.71 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The increase in income demonstrates the continued growth of the company’s asset-management franchise.

Core operating profit reached a record ₹523 crore, up approximately 25% year-on-year. This was a key positive in the results, indicating that the company’s underlying operating business continued to expand despite the exceptional charge affecting reported earnings.

Net profit declined 5.9% year-on-year to ₹324.37 crore, compared with ₹344.64 crore in Q2 FY26. The decline was primarily driven by a one-time SEBI-related settlement charge of ₹96.76 crore. Investors should distinguish this exceptional item from the performance of the company’s core operating business.

The settlement charge affected reported profitability for the quarter, but it does not by itself indicate that the company’s recurring operating earnings weakened. For a clearer assessment, investors should examine operating profit, revenue growth, assets under management and the sustainability of fee income alongside reported net profit.

Assets under management remained the central driver of the company’s business. Total closing AUM increased approximately 14% year-on-year to ₹8.68 lakh crore as of September 30, 2026. A larger asset base can support higher fee income, although revenue also depends on market movements, product mix and the fees earned on different investment products.

Nippon India Mutual Fund’s quarterly average assets under management increased approximately 20% year-on-year to ₹7.87 lakh crore. Quarterly average AUM is an important measure for asset managers because management fees are generally linked to the assets managed over a period, rather than solely to the closing value on the final day of the quarter.

The mutual fund business continued to gain market share. Its market share based on quarterly average AUM increased by approximately 51 basis points year-on-year to 9.02%. This indicates that the business grew faster than the overall market on this measure.

During H1 FY27, the company’s operating performance was also strong. Revenue from operations increased approximately 23.5% year-on-year to ₹1,562.62 crore, compared with ₹1,264.73 crore in H1 FY26.

Total income for the first half reached approximately ₹1,755.97 crore, up from ₹1,447.32 crore a year earlier. The company reported net profit of approximately ₹828.07 crore for H1 FY27, compared with ₹740.76 crore in the corresponding period last year, representing growth of around 11.8%.

The half-year results show that the company’s overall earnings remained higher year-on-year, even though Q2 reported profit was affected by the exceptional settlement charge. This distinction is important when assessing the trend in recurring performance.

The asset-management industry benefits from the long-term growth of household financial savings, mutual fund participation and systematic investment plans. As more investors use mutual funds to invest in equities, debt and other financial assets, asset managers can benefit from increasing average AUM and distribution reach.

However, AUM growth is not guaranteed. Market declines can reduce assets under management and fee income, even when investor flows remain positive. A shift toward lower-fee products, including passive funds and exchange-traded funds, can also affect the revenue earned per unit of AUM.

Competition among asset managers remains intense. Companies compete through investment performance, brand strength, distribution partnerships, digital access, product offerings and investor servicing. Maintaining market share while protecting operating margins will be important for Nippon Life India Asset Management.

The company’s diversified investment-management activities include mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, portfolio management services, alternative investment funds, pension-related mandates and offshore products. This range of activities provides opportunities to serve different investor groups and reduce dependence on a single product category.

The company also announced an interim dividend of ₹9.50 per equity share. October 28, 2026, was set as the record date for determining eligible shareholders. Dividend payments are relevant to investors assessing shareholder returns, although future distributions depend on board decisions and the company’s financial position.

Looking ahead, the key factors to monitor include average AUM growth, market-share trends, net inflows, equity-market conditions, product mix and operating costs. Investors should also track how the business develops after the one-time settlement charge and whether record operating profitability can be sustained.

Overall, Nippon Life India Asset Management delivered a strong quarter at the operating level, with revenue growth, higher AUM, market-share gains and record operating profit. The decline in reported net profit was largely associated with the exceptional SEBI-related charge, making underlying operating performance an important part of the Q2 FY27 assessment.
