Jio Platforms Q2 FY27 Results: Profit Rises 13.7% and Revenue Grows 11.4% After Historic Listing

Jio Platforms entered a new chapter in India’s stock market on October 28, 2026, becoming the country’s second-most valuable listed company following a blockbuster debut. Two days later, its Q2 FY27 results offered investors their first detailed assessment of earnings performance after the listing.

The telecom and digital services company reported consolidated profit after tax of ₹8,387 crore for the September quarter, compared with ₹7,375 crore a year earlier. Profit attributable to shareholders stood at ₹8,389 crore, representing approximately 13.7% year-on-year growth.

Revenue from operations increased 11.4% to ₹40,475 crore from ₹36,332 crore in Q2 FY26. The expansion reflected continued growth in connectivity services, improving customer monetisation and rising demand across Jio’s digital ecosystem.

Operating profitability grew faster than revenue during the quarter. EBITDA increased 16.6% year-on-year to ₹21,879 crore from ₹18,757 crore, indicating that stronger business volumes were translating into improved operating earnings.

EBITDA margin, calculated against revenue from operations, improved to approximately 54.1% from 51.6% a year earlier. The expansion of around 250 basis points highlighted stronger operating leverage across the business.

Sequentially, Jio maintained positive financial momentum. Revenue increased approximately 3.3% from ₹39,173 crore in Q1 FY27, while consolidated profit after tax rose around 8% from ₹7,764 crore.

Profit before tax reached ₹11,259 crore, compared with ₹9,937 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. This represented approximately 13.3% growth and supported the broader improvement in operating performance.

However, higher financing expenses remain an important consideration. Finance costs increased approximately 40.3% to ₹3,009 crore from ₹2,145 crore a year earlier, demonstrating the continuing financial burden associated with large-scale infrastructure investment.

A key positive development was the improvement in average revenue per user. Monthly ARPU increased to ₹218.8 from ₹215.6 in the preceding quarter and ₹211.4 in Q2 FY26, indicating gradual improvement in customer monetisation.

Although the sequential ARPU increase was relatively modest, its significance becomes clearer when considered against Jio’s enormous subscriber base. Even incremental improvements in revenue per customer can materially influence overall profitability.

Jio ended September 2026 with approximately 542.4 million subscribers, adding 9.1 million customers during the quarter. The expanding customer base reinforced its position as India’s largest telecom operator by subscribers.

The company’s 5G subscriber base reached approximately 300 million, with 15 million additions during the quarter. Continued migration toward 5G strengthens opportunities for higher data consumption and new digital services.

Customer data usage also increased significantly. Average monthly consumption reached 44.2 GB per user, compared with 38.7 GB a year earlier, highlighting growing dependence on high-speed mobile connectivity.

Fixed broadband emerged as another important growth driver. Jio’s broadband subscriber base reached approximately 30 million, supported by around 7.3 million additions over the preceding twelve months.

Within this business, Jio AirFiber crossed 15.1 million subscribers and contributed more than 75% of fixed broadband additions during the year. The performance demonstrated growing demand for wireless home internet services.

Beyond connectivity, Jio continues expanding its presence in enterprise technology, cloud services, artificial intelligence and connected digital applications. These businesses represent potential longer-term opportunities, although their individual financial contributions require careful assessment.

The company’s stock market debut created an equally significant development. Jio Platforms listed at ₹1,358 per share against its IPO issue price of ₹1,119, delivering an immediate premium of approximately 21.4%.

Shares subsequently closed their debut session at ₹1,419, representing a gain of approximately 26.8% over the issue price. Its market capitalisation reached around ₹13.05 lakh crore, placing it behind Reliance Industries among India’s listed companies.

The IPO raised approximately ₹30,188 crore in gross proceeds, making it India’s largest public offering. Jio disclosed that ₹27,500 crore of net proceeds had been used to prepay certain external commercial borrowings of subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm.

This repayment contributed to a substantial improvement in the financial position. Reported net debt declined to ₹8,822 crore from ₹41,161 crore a year earlier, although future borrowing requirements will depend on capital expenditure and expansion plans.

Competition with Bharti Airtel remains an important factor in evaluating Jio’s future earnings. Subscriber additions, ARPU improvement, broadband penetration, network investment and customer retention will determine how effectively the company sustains profitable growth.

For investors, the central question is whether Jio can convert its enormous subscriber base and expanding digital ecosystem into earnings growth sufficient to support its premium valuation. Strong quarterly results provide encouraging evidence, but sustained margins, cash generation and disciplined investment will remain essential.
