GE Vernova to Invest ₹1,400 Million in India to Expand Grid Infrastructure Manufacturing

GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV), a global leader in energy solutions, has announced an investment of approximately ₹1,400 million (USD 16 million) in India to expand its electrification manufacturing and engineering footprint. The move aims to address surging demand for advanced grid technologies essential for a stable, secure, and renewable-powered electricity ecosystem.

The investment will be routed through its listed entity GE Vernova T&D India Limited (NSE: GEV T&D) and includes the setup of a new facility in Noida and an advanced manufacturing line at its existing Chennai (Pallavaram) facility.

The expansion will focus on High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS)—key technologies for enhancing grid reliability, reducing transmission losses, and integrating renewable energy into the grid.

“India continues to be a critical part of our global strategy—both for our customers and as a manufacturing hub,” said Johan Bindele, VP of Grid Systems Integration, GE Vernova.

“Through this investment, we are strengthening our ability to deliver technologies that help utilities move more power, with fewer losses, over longer distances and do it more sustainably,” added Sandeep Zanzaria, MD & CEO of GE Vernova T&D India.

Investment Highlights:

  • Chennai Facility: Will begin production of Line Commutated Converter (LCC) HVDC valves and Voltage Source Converter (VSC) STATCOM valves by early 2027.
  • Noida Lab: A new engineering and testing facility to support system validation and control systems, expected to be operational by the end of 2025.

This expansion is part of GE Vernova’s larger $4 billion global capex plan through 2028 under its “Asia for Asia” strategy, aiming to localize manufacturing and reduce global supply chain dependencies while contributing to India’s renewable energy ambitions.

GE Vernova T&D India currently operates five manufacturing units and has been serving the Indian grid for over a century.
