Jindal Steel Commissions First Galvanizing Line at Angul to Expand Coated Steel Offerings
Jindal Steel has successfully commissioned its first Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL 1) at its cutting-edge Angul Integrated Steel Complex in Odisha. This marks a significant step in the company’s strategy to enhance its coated steel product portfolio under the Jindal Panther Galvanised and ZINKALUME brands.
CGL 1 has the capability to process steel thicknesses from 0.15 mm to 1.50 mm and widths between 700 mm to 1400 mm, offering high-precision, consistent-quality galvanised and galvalume products for diverse sectors including appliances, automotive, infrastructure, and construction.
Product Portfolio Highlights
- Jindal Panther Galvanised: Available in full hard, soft, and skin-passed variants, these products are used in air conditioners, white goods, electrical panels, ducting systems, coolers, vehicle bodies, silos, and storage boxes. They also serve as base materials for pre-painted galvanised iron (PPGI).
- ZINKALUME Galvalume: Coated with an aluminium-silicon-zinc alloy, these products offer enhanced corrosion resistance and thermal durability, ideal for refrigerator backs, solar structures, fuel tanks, and PPGL (pre-painted galvalume) applications.
The line further enables production of thinner hot-rolled galvanised coils (1.00–1.50 mm) for applications in tube manufacturing, silos, tank farms, and pre-engineered buildings, along with high-strength variants for automotive underbody components.
Chairman’s Statement
“The commissioning of our first galvanising line at the Angul Integrated Steel Complex is a proud milestone,” said Mr. Naveen Jindal, Chairman, Jindal Steel. “It reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality, value-added steel products for diverse industry needs. We are confident that Panther Galvanised and ZINKALUME will set new benchmarks in the market.”
Capacity Expansion Plans
This development comes ahead of Jindal Steel’s upcoming 6 MTPA crude steel capacity addition at the Angul facility, which will take the total installed capacity to 12 MTPA by the end of 2025. Once complete, Angul will be one of the largest single-location steel plants in India.
The commissioning of CGL 1 aligns with Jindal Steel’s broader goal to scale up its capabilities in high-performance, value-added steel production, positioning it to serve both domestic and export markets with advanced material solutions.
