Republic Day 2024 Celebrations

Indian Republic Day is celebrated on January 26th each year to honor the day when the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950, replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India. The day marks the transition of India from a British Dominion to a sovereign democratic republic.

The main event takes place in the national capital, New Delhi, at Rajpath, where a grand military parade is held. The President of India unfurls the national flag, and a 21-gun salute is given. The parade showcases the diverse cultural heritage of India, with tableaux from different states, various military and paramilitary forces, and school children participating in the festivities. The Beating Retreat ceremony, held on January 29th, officially concludes the Republic Day celebrations.

It is a day of national pride and patriotism, and Indians across the country celebrate Republic Day with flag hoisting ceremonies, patriotic songs, parades, and various cultural programs. The significance of Republic Day lies in the reaffirmation of the commitment to justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity as outlined in the Constitution of India.
