SRF Q2 FY27 Concall

SRF Ltd delivered strong year-on-year growth in Q2 FY27, supported by improved performance across its chemicals, performance films and foil, and technical textiles businesses. Consolidated revenue increased 35%, while net profit rose 31%, reflecting better operating performance across several of the company’s major business segments.

For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, consolidated revenue from operations reached ₹4,904.20 crore, compared with ₹3,640.19 crore in Q2 FY26. The increase of approximately 34.7% highlights strong business expansion despite an uncertain global economic environment.

Consolidated net profit after tax rose to ₹509.12 crore from ₹388.18 crore a year earlier, an increase of approximately 31.2%. However, profit declined sequentially from ₹758.87 crore in Q1 FY27. This difference shows why investors should evaluate both year-on-year growth and quarter-on-quarter performance.

Operational earnings before interest and tax, or operational EBIT, increased 26% year-on-year to ₹816 crore from ₹650 crore. Although operating profit grew strongly, its growth rate was below revenue growth, making segment margins and cost movements important areas to watch.

SRF operates across fluorochemicals, specialty chemicals, performance films and foil, technical textiles, and coated and laminated fabrics. This diversified business portfolio gives the company exposure to refrigerants, industrial chemicals, flexible packaging materials, tyre-related materials and emerging energy-storage applications.

The Chemicals business reported revenue of ₹2,079 crore, up 25% year-on-year from ₹1,667 crore. Segment operating profit increased 10% to ₹528 crore from ₹481 crore. Revenue growth was stronger than operating-profit growth, indicating that the segment’s profitability did not expand at the same pace as sales.

Within chemicals, the Fluorochemicals business benefited from robust refrigerant sales volumes and positive pricing momentum across key products. SRF continued to focus on operational efficiency while maintaining its position in important refrigerant markets.

The Specialty Chemicals business operated in a more challenging environment shaped by changing global prices, excess capacity in China and geopolitical developments. SRF continued initiatives to improve operating efficiency and manage the impact of market conditions. The pace of recovery in specialty chemicals pricing and demand will be important for future segment profitability.

The Performance Films and Foil business was one of the strongest contributors to the quarter. Revenue rose 51% year-on-year to ₹2,122 crore from ₹1,408 crore. Segment operating profit increased 73% to ₹206 crore from ₹119 crore, reflecting a substantial improvement in both scale and profitability.

The segment achieved its highest-ever packed production of films during Q2 FY27. However, demand for films moderated after customers increased purchases during Q1 amid market volatility and subsequently built up inventory. Aluminium foil demand remained healthy during the quarter.

This business is particularly important to SRF’s longer-term growth strategy because films and foil serve packaging and industrial applications, while battery-grade aluminium foil creates potential exposure to the electric-mobility and energy-storage industries.

The Technical Textiles business recorded revenue of ₹595 crore, up 25% year-on-year from ₹474 crore. Operating profit increased 71% to ₹72 crore from ₹42 crore, supported by healthy demand and improved margins.

Technical textiles include specialised materials used in applications such as tyre reinforcement and industrial products. The quarter’s profit growth suggests an improvement in operating performance, although demand trends and input costs will remain important factors for the business.

Other businesses, including coated and laminated fabrics, reported revenue of ₹107 crore, up 18% year-on-year from ₹91 crore. Operating profit increased 29% to ₹10 crore from ₹8 crore. The segment performed broadly in line with prevailing market conditions.

For the first half of FY27, SRF’s consolidated revenue reached ₹9,937 crore, up approximately 33% from ₹7,459 crore in H1 FY26. Consolidated net profit increased 55% to ₹1,268 crore from ₹820 crore in the corresponding period. This stronger half-year profit growth indicates that the improvement in earnings extends beyond the latest quarter alone.

Sequentially, however, consolidated revenue eased from ₹5,033.26 crore in Q1 FY27 to ₹4,904.20 crore in Q2 FY27. The sequential decline in net profit was also significant. Investors should therefore monitor whether demand normalises after the previous quarter’s inventory-related activity and whether margins remain resilient.

SRF continues to invest in manufacturing capacity aimed at emerging industries. During the quarter, its board approved an investment of approximately ₹600 crore to establish a battery-grade aluminium foil manufacturing facility in India. The facility is intended to serve lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery applications, positioning SRF to participate in the growing energy-storage and electric-mobility supply chains.

The planned facility will have total capacity of approximately 12,000 metric tonnes per annum. The project is expected to be implemented in two phases, each costing around ₹300 crore. Phase I is targeted for completion by September 2028, followed by Phase II by September 2030.

This investment offers a potential long-term growth opportunity, but the financial benefits will depend on construction and commissioning timelines, customer qualification, demand for battery materials, capacity utilisation and the economics of the product.

SRF also continued to invest in research and development. As of September 30, 2026, the company had filed 539 patent applications globally, with 160 patents granted. Its innovation capabilities may support product development and differentiation across chemicals and advanced materials.

Management indicated that capital expenditure aimed at emerging growth sectors remains a priority despite global uncertainty. For investors, this creates a balance between near-term spending requirements and the possibility of stronger future earnings as new facilities become operational.

Several risks remain. Chemicals businesses can be affected by global pricing, Chinese capacity additions, geopolitical developments and raw-material costs. Performance films may experience demand fluctuations due to customer inventory cycles, while large capital projects carry construction, commissioning and utilisation risks.

Looking ahead, important indicators include the sustainability of refrigerant pricing and volumes, a recovery in specialty chemicals profitability, demand for performance films, technical-textile margins and execution of the battery-grade foil project. The company’s ability to convert revenue growth into operating-profit growth will also be important.

Overall, SRF delivered strong year-on-year revenue and profit growth in Q2 FY27, with Performance Films and Foil and Technical Textiles showing particularly strong operating-profit growth. The company also strengthened its long-term investment pipeline through the proposed battery-grade aluminium foil facility. Investors should balance these positive developments against the sequential decline in consolidated profit and the execution risks associated with large capital investments.
