HCL Technologies Q2 FY27 Concall
HCLTech reported strong year on year profit growth in Q2 FY27, supported by higher revenue and an improvement in operating margins. However, its full year growth outlook remains measured, reflecting uncertainty in global technology spending and the rapid shift toward artificial intelligence driven services.
Consolidated revenue reached ₹35,620 crore, increasing 11.5% year on year and approximately 3% sequentially. In US dollar terms, revenue stood at around $3.72 billion, up 2.2% year on year and 2% quarter on quarter. On a constant currency basis, revenue grew 2.6% year on year and 2.3% sequentially, giving a clearer view of underlying business momentum without exchange rate movements.
Net profit increased 21.2% year on year to ₹5,132 crore. The company also reported sequential profit growth. This was a stronger increase than revenue growth, indicating that improved operating performance and other factors supported the bottom line during the quarter.
Earnings per share reached ₹70.22, up 12.2% year on year. Investors should assess earnings growth alongside revenue quality, margins and cash generation to understand whether the improvement can be sustained across future quarters.
Operating margin, measured as EBIT margin, reached 18.2%. This was an improvement of 71 basis points year on year and 131 basis points sequentially. The reported margin included the impact of restructuring costs, which affected both operating and net income margins.
Margin improvement is important because IT companies face pressure from wage expenses, project pricing, currency movements and investments in new technologies. HCLTech’s ability to sustain profitability while funding AI capabilities and delivery transformation will remain a key factor for earnings growth.
The company reported new deal wins with a total contract value of approximately $3.26 billion. This was higher than the comparable year ago figure of about $2.57 billion. Stronger bookings can improve future revenue visibility, although the timing of project commencement and conversion of contracts into revenue remain important.
One of the most significant developments was the performance of HCLTech’s advanced AI business. Annualised advanced AI revenue reached $219 million, increasing 78% year on year and 28.4% sequentially on a constant currency basis. This indicates that clients are increasingly spending on advanced AI related services and solutions.
The opportunity is significant, but AI is also changing the economics of traditional IT services. Clients increasingly expect productivity improvements and may negotiate pricing based on business outcomes rather than the number of employees or hours deployed. HCLTech must convert AI demand into profitable revenue while managing the possibility that automation could reduce some conventional services work.
HCLTech also announced a global premier partnership with Anthropic to expand governed agentic AI adoption among enterprises. The collaboration is intended to support the development and deployment of AI solutions for business use cases, with attention to security and governance. The commercial impact will depend on client adoption, implementation scale and the ability to deliver measurable business value.
The company’s IT and business services operations remained a major contributor to revenue. Engineering and research and development services also expanded, while the software business faced a different growth trajectory. Investors should track the performance of each business line because their growth rates and margin profiles can differ considerably.
Geographically, performance varied across markets. India recorded strong growth, while the United States continued to expand at a more moderate pace and Europe faced comparatively softer conditions. This highlights the importance of regional technology spending, client budgets and demand across sectors such as manufacturing, financial services and healthcare.
Management raised the lower end of its FY27 revenue growth guidance to 2.5% from 1%, while retaining the upper end at 4% in constant currency terms. Services revenue growth guidance was maintained at 3% to 4%. The company expects its EBIT margin to remain within a range of 17.5% to 18.5%.
The revised guidance indicates that management sees a path to growth, but it is not signalling an aggressive acceleration. Global geopolitical uncertainty, cautious client spending and changes in technology delivery models remain relevant risks. Investors should distinguish between reported rupee growth, constant currency growth and the company’s full year guidance.
HCLTech added approximately 6,450 employees during the quarter, bringing its workforce to around 230,339. The additions suggest that the company is continuing to invest in delivery capacity and new capabilities. At the same time, employee costs and productivity per employee remain important indicators for operating leverage.
Cash generation also matters when evaluating the quality of earnings. The company reported trailing twelve month free cash flow equivalent to 87% of net income. Its return on invested capital was approximately 41.2%, reflecting its ability to generate returns from capital employed. These measures should be monitored over time rather than treated as guarantees of future performance.
The board declared a dividend of ₹12 per share for FY27. The payout is relevant to shareholders assessing the company’s cash returns, but dividend decisions should be viewed alongside business investment requirements, cash generation and future growth opportunities.
For the next few quarters, investors should monitor constant currency revenue growth, the conversion of deal wins into actual revenue, operating margin trends and the pace of advanced AI revenue expansion. The ability to maintain margins while investing in AI and absorbing restructuring costs will be especially important.
Competition remains intense across the global IT services industry. HCLTech must balance traditional services demand with newer AI and engineering opportunities. Strong deal bookings and AI growth provide potential support, but their benefits will depend on delivery execution, client budgets and profitable pricing.
Overall, HCLTech delivered a strong profit increase, improved operating margins and encouraging advanced AI growth in Q2 FY27. However, its annual growth guidance remains moderate, reflecting a changing demand environment. Future performance will depend on how effectively the company converts bookings and AI opportunities into sustained revenue, cash flow and profitable growth.
