HCLTech Q2 FY27 Results: Profit Jumps 21%, But Did Revenue Disappoint?

HCLTech has delivered a strong profit performance in the second quarter of financial year 2026–27.
Consolidated net profit increased 21.2% year-on-year to ₹5,132 crore, while revenue reached ₹35,620 crore.
The company also announced an interim dividend of ₹12 per share. The results, announced on October 12, 2026, present an interesting picture for investors.
Profitability improved significantly, new deal bookings remained healthy, and artificial intelligence emerged as an important growth area. However, the headline profit growth does not tell the entire story.
HCLTech’s quarterly revenue narrowly missed market expectations, highlighting the continuing challenges facing India’s information technology services industry.
Revenue from operations increased 11.5% compared with the corresponding quarter last year. On a sequential basis, revenue grew approximately 3% from ₹34,579 crore in the June quarter.
Consolidated net profit increased from ₹4,626 crore in the previous quarter to ₹5,132 crore. This represents sequential growth of approximately 11%, demonstrating a meaningful improvement in quarterly earnings.
The company also exceeded market profit expectations. According to LSEG estimates reported by Reuters, analysts had expected net profit of approximately ₹4,859 crore, compared with the actual ₹5,132 crore.
Revenue expectations were slightly higher than the reported figure. Analysts had projected approximately ₹35,686 crore, meaning the company missed the consensus estimate by around ₹66 crore.
Although this revenue shortfall was relatively small, it remains relevant because global technology spending is experiencing structural changes.
Customers are increasingly examining technology budgets, project returns, and the commercial benefits of artificial intelligence.
One of the strongest features of HCLTech’s quarterly performance was operating profitability. The company reported an EBIT margin of 18.2%, compared with approximately 16.9% in the preceding quarter.
This improvement of 131 basis points indicates that the company generated stronger operating earnings relative to revenue. It also demonstrates why investors should evaluate margins alongside overall sales growth.
Operating profit, measured through EBIT, reached approximately ₹6,465 crore. This compares with ₹5,831 crore in the previous quarter, reflecting a substantial sequential improvement.
However, quarterly margin improvements should not automatically be treated as permanent.
Currency movements, employee expenses, restructuring costs, project execution, and business mix can influence profitability in subsequent quarters.
Another major development was HCLTech’s updated revenue growth guidance for FY27. The company raised the lower end of its constant-currency revenue growth forecast from 1% to 2.5%.
The revised full-year revenue growth guidance now stands at 2.5% to 4%, compared with the earlier range of 1% to 4%.
The upper end remains unchanged, making this a more confident but still measured outlook. For shareholders, this revision suggests improved visibility into the company’s expected revenue performance.
Nevertheless, guidance represents management’s expectations rather than revenue that has already been achieved.
HCLTech also maintained its full-year EBIT margin guidance at 17.5% to 18.5%. The second-quarter margin of 18.2% falls within this range, providing a useful reference for evaluating upcoming results.
Perhaps the most significant business development was the company’s strong order-booking performance. HCLTech announced approximately $3.26 billion in new deal wins during the September quarter.
These bookings included a major contract associated with Mercedes-Benz, valued at approximately $1.14 billion.
The deal represents an important commercial achievement and reinforces HCLTech’s position in large enterprise technology engagements. However, investors must distinguish between deal bookings and recognised revenue.
Contract values are generally realised over time, depending on implementation schedules, contractual terms, and customer requirements.
Large contracts can strengthen future revenue visibility, but they do not guarantee immediate profitability.
Delivery costs, contract pricing, execution efficiency, and customer spending patterns ultimately determine their financial contribution.
Artificial intelligence was another major highlight of the quarterly announcement. HCLTech reported advanced AI revenue of $219 million, representing sequential growth of 28.4%.
Advanced AI revenue also increased approximately 78% year-on-year in constant currency. This indicates that AI-related services are becoming a more meaningful component of the company’s commercial activities.
The company has also announced a global partnership with Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind Claude.
The collaboration aims to accelerate enterprise adoption of agentic AI, including applications involving cybersecurity, governance, and business processes.
Such partnerships may help HCLTech develop new enterprise offerings and expand relationships with existing customers.
However, the financial contribution of this partnership has not been quantified in the reported results. The wider IT industry is experiencing a transition as AI changes how customers purchase technology services.
Automation can create new business opportunities while also reducing demand for certain traditional, labour-intensive services.
For HCLTech, the challenge is to capture AI-related spending without allowing automation-driven pricing pressure to weaken established revenue streams.
Sustainable growth will depend on how effectively the company manages this transition.
Shareholders also received a dividend announcement. HCLTech declared an interim dividend of ₹12 per equity share, continuing its practice of distributing cash to investors.
The company fixed October 16, 2026, as the dividend record date, with payment scheduled for October 26. Investors should understand that dividend eligibility depends on applicable settlement and ex-dividend rules.
In the stock market, HCLTech shares closed around ₹1,223 on October 12, gaining approximately 0.5% before the earnings announcement.
This closing movement should not be interpreted as the market’s reaction to the newly released results.
The next trading session will provide an initial indication of how investors assess the combination of stronger profitability, higher guidance, healthy deal wins, and the modest revenue miss.
Looking ahead, the most important indicators include revenue conversion from large contracts, continued AI business expansion, operating margin sustainability, and demand conditions across major international markets.
Overall, HCLTech’s Q2 FY27 results show stronger earnings, improved margins, and encouraging commercial momentum.
However, the investment outlook will depend on whether these developments translate into sustained revenue growth and profitability over the coming quarters.
