Meesho’s Festive Demand Surprises | What Could This Mean for Its Growth Story?

Meesho’s Mega Blockbuster Sale 2026 has opened with a powerful start, as Day 1 orders grew approximately 75% year on year.

The numbers highlight the scale of festive shopping demand building across India and raise an important question: what is driving this momentum?

According to the company, orders peaked at more than 75,000 per minute within 15 minutes of the sale going live. Transacting customers also increased by around 60% compared with the same period last year.

These figures suggest that Meesho attracted significant shopper activity right from the opening hours. But the bigger story goes beyond the headline order growth.

The sale highlights how online shopping is spreading across different regions, product categories and consumer groups.

From fashion and beauty to home essentials and festive decorations, shoppers are using the platform for a wider range of purchases.

Fashion remained a major category, with sarees, children’s clothing sets and kurta sets among the popular products.

At the same time, demand extended to puja essentials, decorative lights, candles, cleaning products and personal care items.

This shows how festive shopping is evolving. Consumers are not only buying clothes for celebrations but also preparing their homes, organising gatherings and purchasing smaller products for specific festive needs.

Some categories recorded particularly sharp increases. Orders for torans and wall hangings grew eightfold year on year, while earlobe support patches for heavy earrings rose nearly sevenfold.

Rosemary for hair care recorded growth of more than six times. These examples illustrate the variety of products contributing to the festive shopping basket.

However, rapid growth in individual categories does not necessarily mean they account for the largest share of total orders.

Another important development is the growing popularity of branded shopping beyond major cities. Meesho Mall orders increased more than 200% year on year on Day 1, according to the company.

The platform also reported that Tier 3 and smaller market customers shopping through Meesho Mall nearly tripled year on year.

More than one in three shoppers purchased a Mall product for the first time across over 1,000 brands.

Beauty and personal care products were particularly prominent among first time Mall buyers. Health and wellness products and footwear also attracted demand.

This trend could indicate that branded products are becoming more accessible to consumers outside major metropolitan areas. Price accessibility, product choice and digital discovery may all contribute to this shift.

Technology is another central part of Meesho’s strategy. The company said personalised recommendations powered approximately 85% of Day 1 orders.

AI driven discovery can help shoppers navigate a large product catalogue and find items that match their interests. For an online marketplace, better product discovery may support engagement and purchasing activity.

However, the reported figure does not establish how much incremental growth came specifically from AI. The longer term value will depend on whether these recommendations improve customer experience, repeat purchases and business economics.

Creator led commerce also showed strong momentum. Content Commerce orders grew around 3.7 times year on year, highlighting the growing role of videos and creator content in product discovery.

Approximately 90% of active Content Commerce creators were nano creators, while around 81% came from non metro India.

This points to the importance of local voices in helping shoppers discover products relevant to their preferences and communities.

The festive surge also extended to sellers. Transacting sellers increased approximately 63% year on year, while the number of transacting sellers from Tier 4 and smaller markets doubled.

Sellers receiving their first ever Meesho order on Day 1 grew around 43%. This suggests that the sale is creating opportunities for a broader range of sellers to reach customers.

For the marketplace, wider participation can strengthen product selection and geographic reach. For individual sellers, though, the actual benefit will depend on order volumes, fulfilment costs, returns and margins.

The key question now is whether Meesho can maintain this momentum through the rest of the festive season. A strong opening day is encouraging, but sustained performance matters more than a single day’s numbers.

Investors and market watchers should also distinguish between order growth and financial performance. A 75% increase in orders does not automatically translate into equivalent revenue or profit growth.

Average order value, repeat customer behaviour, seller economics, fulfilment expenses and the cost of attracting customers will all influence the quality of this growth.

The performance of Meesho Mall and Content Commerce will also be worth watching. If branded shopping and creator led discovery continue to expand, they could become increasingly important parts of the platform’s long term growth story.

For now, the Mega Blockbuster Sale has delivered a strong opening, with growth across orders, customers and sellers. It also offers a glimpse into changing shopping habits across Bharat.

The next test is whether Meesho can turn this festive surge into lasting customer engagement and sustainable business growth. That is the bigger story to watch as the sale continues.
