Multi Commodity Exchange Q2 FY27 Results: Strong Revenue, Record Profitability and Key Investor Takeaways
Multi Commodity Exchange of India delivered strong financial results for the second quarter of FY27, with consolidated net profit rising approximately 130% year on year to ₹454.57 crore. The sharp earnings growth reflected higher operating revenue and a significant improvement in profitability during the September 2026 quarter.
Revenue from operations increased approximately 114% to nearly ₹800 crore, compared with ₹374.23 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The substantial expansion highlighted increased business activity across the exchange’s commodity derivatives platform.
The company also recorded sequential growth, with revenue increasing approximately 14% from ₹702 crore in Q1 FY27. This indicates that the improvement extended beyond the comparison with the previous financial year.
Consolidated net profit increased from ₹197.47 crore in Q2 FY26 to ₹454.57 crore in Q2 FY27. The growth demonstrated how higher exchange revenue translated into substantially stronger earnings during the quarter.
Compared with the preceding quarter, net profit rose approximately 10% from ₹413.44 crore. The sequential improvement was more moderate than the annual increase but reflected continued profitability growth.
One of the most significant developments was the expansion in operating margin to approximately 75.1%, compared with 62.1% a year earlier. This improvement of around 13 percentage points highlighted the operating leverage associated with higher exchange activity.
Operating margin also improved from approximately 69.6% in Q1 FY27. The sequential expansion indicates that the company generated stronger operating profitability alongside its increase in quarterly revenue.
MCX operates a major commodity derivatives exchange in India, providing trading infrastructure for contracts linked to precious metals, energy products and other commodities. Its financial performance is closely connected to market participation and transaction activity.
Higher trading activity can support exchange revenue because a significant portion of the platform’s infrastructure costs does not necessarily increase in direct proportion to transaction volumes. This operating leverage can contribute to stronger margins when business activity expands.
The company’s total income reached approximately ₹851.28 crore during the quarter, including other income of around ₹51.6 crore. This was higher than the ₹752 crore recorded in the preceding quarter.
Profit before tax increased to approximately ₹639.92 crore, compared with ₹523.13 crore in Q1 FY27. The improvement reflected stronger operating performance and the contribution from other income.
Consolidated expenses stood at approximately ₹211.36 crore during the September quarter. The relationship between revenue growth and operating expenditure played an important role in the substantial improvement in profitability.
Technology and information related services accounted for approximately ₹34.63 crore of quarterly expenditure. Continued investment in trading infrastructure remains important for maintaining platform reliability, capacity and operational efficiency.
Another important development involved the Core Settlement Guarantee Fund, which supports the financial safeguards associated with exchange clearing and settlement. The fund is designed to strengthen the market infrastructure’s ability to manage specified settlement risks.
Following regulatory changes introduced by SEBI in August 2026, the group was not required to make additional contributions to the Core Settlement Guarantee Fund during the quarter. This change is relevant when examining expenses and comparing profitability across reporting periods.
The total Core Settlement Guarantee Fund stood at approximately ₹1,472.16 crore as of September 30, 2026. Investors should distinguish the fund’s regulatory purpose from the company’s ordinary operating revenue and profitability.
MCX also infused ₹51.50 crore of additional capital into its wholly owned subsidiary, MCX Coal Exchange of India Limited. The investment increased the total capital infused into the subsidiary to approximately ₹52.50 crore.
The capital allocation highlights the company’s efforts to develop additional market infrastructure and expand its presence in commodity related activities. Future contributions from the subsidiary will depend on regulatory developments, product availability and market participation.
For the first half of FY27, MCX recorded consolidated net profit of approximately ₹868.01 crore. The performance reflected the combined contribution of the June and September quarters to the company’s earnings.
MCX shares gained approximately 7.43% to close at ₹3,490.10 on November 3, 2026. The advance reflected positive market sentiment toward the exchange operator, although the company’s financial results were approved later that evening.
The company’s earnings call is scheduled for November 4, providing an opportunity for management to discuss trading activity, product developments, operating costs and business priorities. Any numerical guidance or additional management commentary should be assessed after the discussion.
MCX enters the second half of FY27 with substantially higher revenue, stronger profitability and expanded operating margins. Future performance will depend on sustained commodity trading activity, regulatory developments, infrastructure investments and the exchange’s ability to maintain operating efficiency.
