Tata Consumer Products Ltd Q2 FY27 Concall
Tata Consumer Products Ltd reported a strong performance in Q2 FY27, supported by volume growth in India, expansion of its growth businesses and improving operating profitability. The company continued to strengthen its presence across tea, salt, packaged foods, health and wellness products, ready-to-drink beverages and premium café retail.
Consolidated revenue from operations rose 14% year-on-year to ₹5,661 crore, while EBITDA increased 18% to ₹794 crore. Consolidated net profit grew 16% to approximately ₹470 crore.
EBITDA margin improved by 40 basis points to 14.0%, indicating that operating earnings grew faster than revenue. Management attributed the performance to strong domestic volumes and disciplined execution.
The India branded business delivered underlying volume growth of 11%, supported by strong demand for salt and continued momentum across growth categories. This is an important indicator because volume-led growth can provide a more sustainable foundation than revenue increases driven primarily by pricing.
The company’s growth businesses expanded 40% year-on-year and accounted for 38% of the India business. These businesses include newer and acquired brands that are helping Tata Consumer diversify beyond its traditional tea and salt categories.
Tata Salt recorded 15% revenue growth during the quarter, supported by healthy volume growth. Salt remains a key part of the domestic portfolio, and continued demand provides support to the company’s core business.
The India tea business experienced a more challenging quarter. Tea volumes remained flat amid subdued category demand, while revenue declined marginally following pricing actions and a narrowing of the volume-value gap. Investors should monitor whether demand improves and whether pricing and input costs allow the category to maintain profitability.
Tata Sampann delivered 57% revenue growth, driven by strong volumes across pulses and spices and momentum in newer categories such as cold-pressed oils and dry fruits. The performance demonstrates the company’s efforts to expand into higher-value packaged food products.
The ready-to-drink business recorded 47% revenue growth, including 34% volume growth. Distribution expansion, premiumisation and new products supported the performance. This category offers an opportunity to reach more consumers through convenient beverage formats.
Capital Foods and Organic India together grew revenue by 15%. Shipping disruptions affected exports, but domestic revenue increased 24%. The domestic performance suggests underlying demand remains encouraging, although the recovery of export logistics will be important for future growth.
Tata Consumer launched 22 new products during the quarter across health and wellness, convenience and premiumisation. Product innovation is intended to strengthen consumer relevance, broaden the portfolio and support long-term growth.
The international business reported 7% revenue growth, although revenue declined 2% in constant-currency terms. The comparison was against a high base. In the UK, category consumption was affected by continued hot weather, while Tetley outperformed the overall category. In Canada, the company reported growth ahead of the category in both regular and specialty segments.
Tata Starbucks recorded 15% revenue growth, supported by strong same-store sales performance. It ended the quarter with 505 stores across 81 Indian cities and opened seven net new stores during the period, including two Reserve stores. The business recorded its fifth consecutive quarter of positive same-store sales growth.
The Starbucks performance indicates that premium café demand and the company’s retail expansion are contributing to growth. Investors should nevertheless track store productivity, same-store sales, operating costs and the pace of new openings to assess whether expansion remains profitable.
Management is also advancing AI-led digital initiatives across sales and operations, with the objective of improving productivity and execution. The company’s broader strategy remains focused on strengthening core brands while scaling growth businesses and building future-ready capabilities.
For the first half of FY27, consolidated revenue reached ₹11,010 crore. EBITDA margin improved to 13.8%, up 60 basis points year-on-year. The first-half figures indicate continued momentum across the business portfolio.
The principal risks include subdued tea demand, fluctuations in agricultural and other input costs, competitive intensity, shipping disruptions and uneven international market conditions. The company will need to sustain volume growth while managing costs and maintaining brand competitiveness.
For investors, the key factors to monitor are India’s underlying volume growth, the contribution and profitability of growth businesses, tea category recovery, international constant-currency performance and margins. The ability to translate portfolio expansion into sustainable earnings and cash generation will remain important.
Overall, Tata Consumer Products delivered a positive Q2 FY27 performance, with revenue up 14%, EBITDA up 18% and profit up 16%. Strong domestic volumes and the rapid growth of newer businesses are encouraging, while tea demand and international constant-currency trends remain areas to watch.
