Tata Elxsi Q2 FY27 Concall

Tata Elxsi reported double digit revenue growth in Q2 FY27, supported by its transportation, media and communications, and healthcare businesses. Profit also increased year on year, while improved operating efficiency helped the company expand its EBITDA margin compared with the previous quarter.

Revenue from operations reached ₹1,055.7 crore, growing 15% year on year and 3.4% sequentially. In constant currency terms, revenue increased 2.3% quarter on quarter. The performance indicates that business momentum improved during the quarter, although growth rates differed across its industry verticals.

Net profit rose approximately 10% year on year to around ₹170 crore. Profit growth remained below revenue growth, reflecting the effect of higher employee and operating expenses and lower other income. This difference makes operating margin and cost management important areas for investors to monitor.

EBITDA increased to ₹231.4 crore, up 7.1% sequentially. EBITDA margin improved to 21.9%, gaining around 70 basis points from the previous quarter. The improvement came despite salary revisions implemented across the workforce, indicating better operational efficiency during the period.

The margin improvement is important because Tata Elxsi operates in design and technology services, where employee costs, project transition expenses, subcontracting and investments in new capabilities can affect profitability. Sustaining higher margins will depend on productivity improvements, project execution and the ability to price specialised engineering work appropriately.

Transportation remains a major business for Tata Elxsi, serving automotive manufacturers and mobility technology companies. Revenue from this vertical grew 2% sequentially in constant currency terms. The company reported new business wins and continued activity in adjacent areas such as aerospace.

One notable development was a strategic multi year engagement with a leading automotive original equipment manufacturer for a next generation cloud based telematics and connected vehicle ecosystem. Such projects can create longer term revenue opportunities, although the pace of commercial ramp up and the size of contribution will depend on project execution and client programmes.

The automotive industry is increasingly investing in software defined vehicles, connected services, embedded systems and digital engineering. These trends offer opportunities for specialised technology providers. However, vehicle production cycles, delayed product launches and changes in electric vehicle investment plans can affect customer spending.

Tata Elxsi is also expanding into aerospace and advanced mobility. Its collaboration with Sarla Aviation to support development of the Shunya electric vertical take off and landing aircraft illustrates the company’s effort to apply its engineering capabilities to newer markets. The financial contribution from such emerging programmes will depend on development milestones and commercialisation timelines.

Media and Communications continued to contribute to growth. The vertical recorded sequential constant currency growth of 3.4%, supported by ongoing project ramp ups and new wins. It represented approximately one third of the company’s software development services business during the quarter.

The company secured an artificial intelligence engagement from a global technology leader to develop a generative AI based virtual assistant focused on multilingual intelligence and digital experiences. The opportunity reflects growing demand for AI enabled customer interactions, but investors should monitor whether these engagements scale into material, recurring revenue.

Media and communications customers are investing in digital platforms, content technology, network transformation and improved customer experiences. These areas can support demand for engineering services, although customers may continue to control discretionary technology spending and seek productivity improvements from service providers.

Healthcare and Life Sciences also delivered sequential constant currency growth of 3.5%. The business won a product engineering mandate from a global renal care company to redesign a next generation home dialysis system. The work involves product design and engineering across user experience, mechanical systems, electronics, embedded software and regulatory requirements.

Healthcare engineering can offer opportunities because medical device companies require specialised design, software and compliance capabilities. However, product development cycles can be lengthy, and regulatory requirements mean that project milestones and revenue recognition may not be evenly distributed between quarters.

Tata Elxsi is investing in artificial intelligence to strengthen its design and engineering offerings. The company made a strategic early stage investment in KAVIA AI, extending a relationship focused on AI driven software development and modernisation. The collaboration aims to help enterprises manage complex software environments through more structured engineering workflows.

AI could create new demand for consulting, product engineering and digital transformation. At the same time, automation may change traditional billing models and client expectations. The key challenge is to turn AI capability into differentiated services, stronger customer relationships and profitable growth rather than relying only on general market enthusiasm around the technology.

The company’s performance should also be assessed through the balance between revenue expansion and employee productivity. Salary increases can create near term pressure, while better utilisation, automation and improved project delivery may help recover margins. Investors should monitor whether operating improvements continue as new projects ramp up.

For the first half of FY27, Tata Elxsi’s operating revenue was approximately ₹2,077 crore, based on the reported first and second quarter figures. The company’s year on year performance should be evaluated across the half year as well as the latest quarter, particularly to determine whether growth is broad based and supported by recurring customer demand.

Management indicated that it expects to sustain growth in the second half of the financial year while continuing investment in AI focused offerings and operational excellence. This outlook will depend on customer spending, the ramp up of recent wins and the performance of its major verticals.

Investors should track constant currency growth in transportation, media and healthcare, the conversion of new deals into revenue, and further changes in EBITDA margin. Profit growth, employee cost trends and the contribution of other income will also help clarify the underlying earnings trajectory.

Overall, Tata Elxsi delivered healthy revenue growth and improved its sequential EBITDA margin in Q2 FY27. Transportation, media and communications, and healthcare each provided growth opportunities, while AI and aerospace represent potential areas for future expansion. The main considerations are whether new projects scale as expected, revenue growth remains consistent and improved operating efficiency translates into sustained profit growth.
