Tech Mahindra Q2 FY27 Results: Profit Jumps 33%, Revenue Hits ₹16,180 Crore

Tech Mahindra has delivered a quarter that could change how investors evaluate its turnaround. The IT services company has reported double-digit revenue growth, a sharp improvement in annual profit and fresh billion-dollar deal wins. Yet the results also reveal an important gap between market expectations and actual earnings.

The biggest surprise came from revenue. Tech Mahindra reported consolidated revenue of ₹16,180.2 crore for the September 2026 quarter, comfortably exceeding the approximately ₹15,195 crore anticipated by analysts surveyed by LSEG.

That represents 15.6% year-on-year growth compared with ₹13,994.9 crore in the corresponding quarter of FY26. Sequentially, revenue increased approximately 3%, indicating that the company maintained growth momentum during the second quarter.

The results were announced on October 15, 2026, alongside two major shareholder-related decisions: a proposed one-for-one bonus share issue and an interim dividend of ₹15 per equity share.

For a company working to strengthen profitability and rebuild investor confidence, this combination of operating performance and shareholder distributions is particularly significant.

Consolidated net profit attributable to shareholders increased 32.7% year-on-year to ₹1,585.6 crore, compared with ₹1,194.5 crore in the same period last year.

However, the profit figure fell short of the approximately ₹1,708 crore expected by analysts. This creates an interesting contrast: Tech Mahindra exceeded revenue expectations but disappointed on the bottom line.

That difference is important because investors generally want to see strong sales growth translating into equally convincing earnings expansion.

Sequential profit growth was more modest, increasing from the previous quarter’s reported level of approximately ₹1,486 crore. This indicates that the company’s year-on-year recovery remains stronger than its quarter-to-quarter improvement.

One of the most closely watched indicators was the operating margin. Tech Mahindra reported an EBIT margin of approximately 14.8%, improving by 40 basis points sequentially.

EBIT margin measures operating profit as a percentage of revenue before interest and taxes. For IT services companies, it provides an important indication of delivery efficiency, employee costs and pricing discipline.

The improvement suggests that Tech Mahindra is continuing to make progress on profitability, even as it expands its business.

However, the company still operates in a highly competitive environment where large contracts can require upfront investments, specialized employees and careful management of delivery costs.

The next challenge is to demonstrate that margin improvements can continue without weakening revenue growth or customer relationships.

Tech Mahindra’s communications business remains a major part of its operations, contributing approximately one-third of total revenue.

The communications vertical recorded 9.5% year-on-year growth, supported by demand for technology modernization and services from telecommunications-related customers.

This business is strategically important because Tech Mahindra has historically maintained strong relationships with telecom operators and communications technology companies.

Large telecommunications contracts can provide recurring revenue opportunities, but they can also expose service providers to changes in customer capital expenditure and cost-cutting priorities.

The manufacturing segment also performed well, recording approximately 7% year-on-year growth. Manufacturing customers increasingly require software engineering, automation, cloud services and digital systems that connect factories, products and supply chains.

For Tech Mahindra, this creates opportunities beyond traditional IT outsourcing, particularly as industrial companies modernize their operations.

The banking and financial services segment reported approximately 4.6% growth, highlighting another area where the company is seeking to expand its presence.

Banking technology spending can include cloud migration, application modernization, data platforms, cybersecurity and operational automation.

However, Tech Mahindra faces established competitors in this segment, including Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, HCLTech, Wipro and several specialized technology providers.

Another major highlight was the company’s deal-winning performance. Tech Mahindra secured approximately $1.02 billion in new contracts during the quarter.

This compares with $816 million in the corresponding quarter last year, representing an increase of roughly 25%.

Large deal wins matter because they provide visibility into potential future business. However, the total value of new contracts should not be confused with revenue that will be recognized immediately.

Contracts can extend across multiple years, and their contribution depends on implementation schedules, client requirements and delivery milestones.

For investors, the crucial question is how efficiently Tech Mahindra converts these new contracts into profitable revenue.

The company has been benefiting from the ramp-up of major customer engagements, including its relationship with Orange Business.

Such contracts can help support revenue growth, but they may also involve transition expenses before operating efficiencies become fully visible.

This is why analysts pay close attention to both deal wins and margins rather than focusing exclusively on the headline contract value.

The latest results also provide an interesting comparison with HCLTech, which recently reported Q2 FY27 revenue of ₹35,620 crore and net profit of ₹5,132 crore.

HCLTech operates at a significantly larger scale, and its latest quarterly EBIT margin guidance framework remains higher than Tech Mahindra’s reported 14.8% margin.

The comparison illustrates that Tech Mahindra’s turnaround still has room to progress, particularly in profitability.

TCS represents another important benchmark because of its scale, global customer relationships and established operating model.

Infosys and Wipro also compete across cloud modernization, enterprise applications, artificial intelligence and managed services.

For Tech Mahindra, the competitive opportunity lies in strengthening its existing communications relationships while expanding its presence in manufacturing, financial services and other enterprise technology markets.

The proposed bonus issue adds another dimension to the investment story. Tech Mahindra’s board has approved a 1:1 bonus proposal, subject to the applicable approvals and conditions.

Under the proposal, eligible shareholders would receive one additional equity share for every existing share held.

A bonus issue increases the number of shares outstanding but does not, by itself, increase the company’s underlying business value or create additional wealth automatically.

The ₹15 interim dividend, meanwhile, represents a proposed cash distribution to eligible shareholders according to the company’s declared terms.

Investors should distinguish between these shareholder actions and the company’s operating performance. A bonus issue changes the share count, while sustainable earnings and cash generation determine the business’s long-term financial strength.

Tech Mahindra’s latest quarter therefore presents an encouraging but nuanced picture. Revenue growth has exceeded expectations, profit has risen sharply from last year and operating margins have improved.

At the same time, the profit miss highlights why a strong revenue number does not necessarily guarantee equally strong bottom-line performance.

The coming quarters will be important for assessing the conversion of billion-dollar deal wins, the durability of communications and manufacturing demand, and the company’s ability to improve margins further.

Tech Mahindra has made measurable progress, but the bigger question for shareholders is whether its turnaround can develop into sustained, profitable growth rather than a series of strong individual quarters.
