Time Technoplast Q2 FY27 Results: Record Earnings, Composite Growth and Margin Pressure

Time Technoplast reported its highest ever quarterly revenue, EBITDA and profit in Q2 FY27, supported by strong sales growth and expanding demand for industrial packaging and composite products. However, the decline in operating margins introduced an important concern alongside the record performance.

Consolidated total income increased 32% year on year to ₹1,996.1 crore, compared with ₹1,512.2 crore in the corresponding quarter. Revenue from operations reached approximately ₹1,994.2 crore, reflecting growth across the company’s diversified business activities.

The company reported consolidated EBITDA of ₹265 crore, compared with ₹223.8 crore a year earlier. This represented approximately 18.4% year on year growth, although the increase was slower than revenue growth.

EBITDA margin declined to 13.3% from 14.8% in the corresponding quarter, representing a contraction of 150 basis points. The difference between revenue and EBITDA growth suggests that higher business volumes did not translate into proportionate operating profitability.

Profit after tax attributable to shareholders increased 26.6% year on year to approximately ₹146.1 crore, compared with ₹115.4 crore. The company therefore delivered record earnings despite pressure on operating margins.

On a quarter on quarter basis, consolidated revenue from operations increased approximately 17.8%, while profit attributable to shareholders rose around 25.7%. This indicates sequential improvement in both business activity and bottom line performance.

The company reported volume growth of 13.8% during the quarter, while total income increased 32%. The difference highlights the importance of pricing, product mix and business composition when evaluating revenue expansion.

Time Technoplast operates across industrial packaging, polymer products, composite cylinders and infrastructure related applications. Its diversified portfolio provides exposure to different customer industries, although individual segments can face different demand and profitability conditions.

One of the most interesting areas is the company’s composite cylinder business, particularly products used in compressed natural gas storage and transportation. This business offers opportunities linked to industrial gas distribution and related infrastructure development.

The company disclosed an order book of approximately ₹210 crore for composite CNG cylinders and cascades. This provides visibility into potential future business, although actual revenue recognition will depend on execution schedules and customer requirements.

Time Technoplast has also highlighted its manufacturing capabilities for Type IV composite CNG cylinders. These products use advanced materials and represent a technologically different offering from conventional industrial packaging products.

The company’s PE pipes business carried an order book of approximately ₹195 crore. Demand for these products is associated with infrastructure applications, making project execution and customer investment important factors in future performance.

In addition to the CNG and pipes businesses, the company highlighted a packaging products tender worth approximately ₹375 crore. The tender opportunity should be distinguished from revenue already recognised or a fully executed order.

The company also reported an approximately ₹38 crore LPG cylinder order from HPCL. Such orders contribute to business opportunities but must be assessed alongside delivery requirements, production capacity and associated costs.

Another developing area is hydrogen storage. Time Technoplast disclosed a trial order worth approximately ₹2.5 crore from NTPC for a hydrogen cylinder storage cascade, indicating early participation in an emerging industrial application.

Although hydrogen related opportunities may support future diversification, trial orders do not establish the scale of a commercial business. Technical performance, approvals and repeat customer demand will be important before their contribution becomes significant.

Management has indicated a consolidated annual volume growth objective of around 15%. This remains a forward looking target rather than a confirmed outcome, particularly given fluctuations in industrial demand and raw material costs.

The company has also outlined an ambition to improve return on capital employed by approximately 1.5 to 2 percentage points annually. Achieving this will depend on asset productivity, capital allocation and the profitability of expanding operations.

Capital efficiency is receiving attention through the planned disposal of non core assets. Management has outlined approximately ₹116 crore of asset monetisation over an estimated 18 to 24 months, although timing and proceeds remain subject to execution.

For the first half of FY27, consolidated total income increased approximately 29% year on year, while EBITDA grew around 17%. Profit after tax increased approximately 25%, demonstrating earnings growth across the six month period.

The key concern remains margin sustainability. Polymer input price movements, changes in product mix and competitive conditions could affect profitability even if demand and revenue continue growing.

Time Technoplast’s Q2 FY27 performance combines record financial results with opportunities in composite CNG cylinders, PE pipes and emerging hydrogen applications. Investors will be watching whether order execution, volume expansion and better capital efficiency can support earnings while addressing the pressure on operating margins.
