APL Apollo Q2 FY27 Concall: Profit Up 27%, Record Volume
APL Apollo Tubes Limited reported a record quarterly performance in Q2 FY27, driven by strong sales volume, improved operating profitability and continued demand for structural steel tubes. The company serves construction, infrastructure, engineering and other industrial markets, positioning it to benefit from India’s long-term infrastructure and urbanisation needs.
For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, consolidated revenue from operations increased 26.6% year-on-year to ₹7,001.70 crore. Net profit rose 26.8% to ₹382.42 crore, compared with ₹301.54 crore in Q2 FY26.
Sales volume reached a record 963,143 tonnes, increasing approximately 13% year-on-year and 29% sequentially. The strong sequential recovery followed a softer Q1 FY27, indicating an improvement in sales momentum during the September quarter.
Operating EBITDA increased 29.3% year-on-year to approximately ₹578 crore. EBITDA per tonne reached ₹5,999, up 15% from a year earlier and 9% sequentially. This improvement indicates that the company converted higher sales into stronger operating earnings.
The operating EBITDA margin was approximately 8.3%, compared with 8.1% in the year-ago quarter. The modest year-on-year improvement, together with higher EBITDA per tonne, suggests better operating performance despite movements in steel prices and product mix.
However, finance costs increased approximately 90% year-on-year to ₹52.4 crore. Investors should monitor borrowing costs and working-capital requirements as the business expands, because higher financing expenses can reduce the benefit of operating profit growth.
The company’s first-half performance was also strong. H1 FY27 revenue from operations increased approximately 22% year-on-year to ₹12,608 crore. Net profit rose around 20% to ₹645.53 crore, while EBITDA increased approximately 21% to ₹990 crore.
H1 FY27 EBITDA per tonne reached ₹5,791, up 17% year-on-year. The improvement in per-tonne profitability suggests that APL Apollo is benefiting from operational efficiency, product mix and stronger realisations in addition to volume growth.
Management expects the second half of FY27 to perform better than the first half, supported by improving demand conditions and increased government infrastructure spending. This outlook remains dependent on actual construction activity, customer demand, steel prices and competitive conditions.
APL Apollo is continuing its capacity expansion programme. Its stated plan is to increase capacity from approximately 5 million tonnes to 8 million tonnes by FY28. The expansion includes around 2 million tonnes of greenfield and brownfield capacity additions, together with approximately 1 million tonne of debottlenecking and modernisation.
The expansion programme is intended to support higher volumes, improve geographic reach and strengthen the company’s ability to meet demand across multiple structural steel tube categories. The key execution factors will be commissioning schedules, capacity utilisation, working-capital management and the ability to maintain attractive per-tonne profitability.
The company also approved the acquisition of an additional 31% stake in SG Enterprise Solutions Private Limited for ₹1.55 lakh. This transaction is expected to increase APL Apollo’s ownership to 51%, making the company a subsidiary, subject to completion of the transaction.
The acquisition could support APL Apollo’s broader business and distribution strategy. Investors should assess the acquired business’s contribution, integration progress and financial impact once it becomes part of the consolidated operations.
Demand for structural steel tubes is influenced by infrastructure development, housing, commercial construction, industrial investment and the adoption of steel in applications traditionally served by other materials. Government capital expenditure and private-sector construction activity therefore remain important external drivers.
APL Apollo’s distribution network, product portfolio and manufacturing footprint provide a platform to serve a wide range of customers. Sustaining growth will depend on continued demand, product availability, competitive pricing and operational execution as capacity increases.
The principal risks include volatility in steel prices, changes in construction demand, higher financing costs, working-capital requirements and execution risks associated with expansion. A rapid increase in capacity can create pressure on margins if demand does not grow at a similar pace.
For investors, the key indicators to monitor are quarterly sales volume, EBITDA per tonne, operating margins, finance costs, capacity utilisation and progress towards the 8-million-tonne capacity target. The contribution from the SG Enterprise Solutions acquisition should also be assessed after consolidation.
Overall, APL Apollo Tubes delivered a strong Q2 FY27 performance, with record quarterly volume, revenue growth of approximately 27% and profit growth of approximately 27%. Improved EBITDA per tonne and the planned capacity expansion provide a positive operating picture, while financing costs, demand conditions and execution remain important factors to watch.
